Gades find Jewell in BBL crown

The Melbourne Renegades have secured the signature of championship-winning batter Caleb Jewell, facilitating a trade with the Hobart Hurricanes.

Jewell, 27, joins the Renegades with seven Big Bash seasons under his belt where he’s established himself as a dynamic and aggressive top-order bat. Coming off a BBL title win, he brings great experience and success to the club.

Jewell has scored 1,160 runs in 58 Big Bash appearances at a strike rate of 126.5, including a best of 76 off 49 balls in January. He’s also a big game performer, scoring a composed and important knock of 40 in the BBL|14 Challenger.

Jewell said he was keen to start a new chapter with the Renegades.

“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity with the Renegades. It’s a fresh challenge, and I’m excited to be part of a squad that’s building something special, Jewell said.

“I’ve had some great battles against the Renegades over the years, and now I can’t wait to contribute in red and make an impact.”

Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, was Jewell to the club, highlighting his ability to provide a great balance of stability and firepower at the top of the order.

“Caleb is a fantastic addition to our squad. He’s proven himself as a high-quality top-order batter, capable of taking on the best bowlers in the competition.

“His ability to accelerate an innings and play match-winning knocks will be a great asset for us in BBL|15. We’ve seen him bat well at Marvel Stadium in the past and we know he plays well in big matches - we’re thrilled to have him on board and look forward to seeing him in action for the Renegades.”

Jewell’s signing - a two-year deal - follows the recent addition of fast bowlers Jason Behrendorff and Brendan Doggett during the Big Bash’s Player Movement Window which concludes on Thursday.
