Stow and Behold: Renegades sign Geelong spinner

The Melbourne Renegades are thrilled to announce the signing of Callum Stow as a Local Replacement Player for BBL|14.

Stow, 22, is a talented left-arm leg-spin bowler from the Gades home-away-from-home Geelong.

He’s a product of the Geelong Cricket Club and has been under the watchful eye of new coach Cameron White after impressive performances in Premier Cricket which earned him a spot in Cricket Victoria’s next gen Targeted Rookie Program.

Stow replaces Nathan Lyon who won’t be available for the first half of the Big Bash season due to his international commitments with Australia.

“It’s an amazing opportunity and I’m so excited to join the Gades and get a taste of Big Bash cricket,” Stow said.

“It’s been a huge week so far, I’ve got a few training sessions under my belt now plus Thursday’s practice match. I’m excited for what’s to come, hopefully I can impress enough and put my name up for selection.”

Stow is doing just that.

After a strong showing for the Renegades Academy in August’s Top End T20 tournament in Darwin, Stow represented runners-up Cricket Victoria in the recent Global Super League tournament in Guyana taking nine wickets in his five games.

Back on home soil, he took figures of 3/17 from his four overs in Thursday’s practice match against the Stars at CitiPower Centre.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager James Rosengarten said Stow’s signing is a testament to his hard work and talent.

"Callum’s application to his craft since he’s been in the Cricket Victorian system has been exceptional and we’ve loved what we’ve seen,” he said.

“He’s absolutely deserving of his spot, and we can’t wait for the energy and skills he can bring to the team for this campaign.”

Stow joined Xavier Crone and Marcus Harris as the Renegades’ latest signings ahead of Monday’s season opener against the Sixers at the SCG.
