Thunder struck down on Renegades

A hard-fought battle by Georgia Wareham wasn't enough to take on the Thunder in Sydney.

Here were the major moments from the Gades first away game of WBBL|09

The Sydney Thunder won the toss and elected to bat first sending captain Hayley Matthews and Tammy Beaumont to start off strong under windy and cold conditions. After the early dismissal of Matthews, Beaumont, Dooley, and Kaur, Courtney Webb and Georgia Wareham entered and then, boundaries were the name of the game.

Wareham found a rhythm in the middle as she hit four after four to keep the momentum on the Renegades side, ending with a score of 47* off 34 balls, with seven boundaries in total. Webb would also look to get in on the action as she kept it steady with singles and three boundaries to end with 31 runs off 30 balls before being caught out. Bringing the Renegades total to 5-147.

Wareham also performed defensively, by claiming the only two wickets of both Talia Wilson and Chamari Athapaththu.

Defending proved to be a challenge as Athapaththu gave an incredible performance at the top of the batting order, scoring 80 runs off 54 deliveries to help the Thunder snag a victory.

The Renegades travel back to Melbourne to take on the Sydney Sixers at CitiPower Centre on Saturday.
