Tom Rogers joins the Renegades

Fast bowler Tom Rogers has signed on with the Renegades for the next two seasons, after taking 20 wickets for the Hobart Hurricanes last summer.

The 28-year-old is coming off a breakout campaign, where he was equal-fourth for the most wickets in the competition.

Rogers, who has previously represented the Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers, is looking forward to forging the next chapter of his journey as a Renegade.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to come across to Melbourne and to play a role for the ‘Gades,” Rogers said.

“Hopefully I can continue to play a similar role to what I did last year in the Big Bash and help support some talented younger players on the list.

“I also want to continue learning and improving – I’ve heard great things about ‘Sakes’ and his coaching and I’ve played a fair bit of cricket against guys like Kane Richardson, Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch, so I’m keen to now share a dressing room with them and see how they go about it.

“Coming off state contract last year, I saw my opportunity to get back into professional cricket with the white ball and really focused on my change ups and execution at the death.

“Things came together quite nicely for me last Big Bash. It’s good to have those memories and moments of success to draw upon and hopefully I can keep building on that this season in red.”

Rogers played some of his best cricket against the Renegades last summer. He collected six wickets in two games against his new team, with both of those games at his new home ground – Marvel Stadium.

Often called upon to bowl in the power play or at the death, Rogers adds another experienced option for captain Nic Maddinson to call upon in pressure situations. “We’ve spent a lot of time this off-season identifying the types of players we need to recruit to help us win more games in BBL|12,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“Tom is certainly one of those players and we’re excited to welcome him to the Renegades.

“He’s coming off a fantastic Big Bash, where he proved to be a strong wicket-taker and regularly took on the challenge of bowling some of the most difficult overs in the innings.

“Tom’s a competitor and brings a real team-first approach. With his experience, we see him alongside Kane Richardson as being an important part of the bowling group we’re building for the next couple of years.”
