Inglis and Atapattu lead WBBL signings news

Sri Lankan record-breaker Chamari Atapattu and Victorian wicketekeeper Emma Inglis are among the headline names to put pen to paper with the Melbourne Renegades ahead of the upcoming Rebel WBBL season.

Joining Attapatu and Inglis is ACT Meteors all-rounder Claire Koski and returning players Kris Britt, Maitlan Brown, Georgia Wareham, Tayla Vlaeminck in red.

Inglis makes the move into red after spending the first two seasons across town with the Stars.

“It’s great to be on board with the Renegades. The team foundations are solid this season with Amy taking the captaincy and my fellow Victorian team mates in Georgia Wareham and Tayla Vlaeminck also signing on today. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into preparation and making finals a reality this season,” Inglis said.

Sri Lankan Atapattu shot to global headlines in June when she smashed 178 not out against Australia in Bristol during the World Cup.

The record-breaking effort remains the third highest individual score in the history of women’s ODIs.

“I am excited to come to Melbourne this season and play with the Renegades. The WBBL is a big competition and the club has lots of fans so it will be great to have that support,” Atapattu said.

Kris Britt will take on an assistant coach role in addition to her on-field duties.

WBBL Head Coach Tim Coyle said today’s signings bring a range of skills to the group.

“I’m pleased we’ve been able to re-sign Kris in an expanded role and Maitlan, Georgia and Tayla who continue to perform well as their careers develop. In Claire and Emma we have signed two experienced state players and Chamari brings an international “x factor” which you need in T20 cricket,” Coyle said.

“We’ve left our final two contracted positions open for now. We’ll review the opening two rounds of the WNCL and club level and see who would make good additions to our squad.”

The Renegades begin their season on 9 December against Sydney Thunder at North Sydney Oval, live on Network Ten.
