Home sweet home

The self-proclaimed ‘hydration manager’ of the Renegades’ WBBL team, 18-year-old Tayla Vlaeminck can’t wait to be a part of the team when it plays a double header at Queen Elizabeth Oval this weekend.

In the latter stages of her recovery from a knee injury, Vlaeminck implored all Bendigo fans to come and support the Renegades against the Hobart Hurricanes.

“It would be great to see as many people as possible there (Bendigo) supporting the Renegades,’’ Vlaeminck told the Bendigo Advertiser.

“People who haven’t seen the WBBL before will be amazed by just how good the players are and how hard they hit the ball.

“The more people we have their supporting the Renegades the better.”

Vlaeminck was able to travel with the team to Sydney for the opening weekend of WBBL|02, an experience which she’ll never forget.

“I had the best weekend. It was just unreal.

“It was so much better than what I thought it was going to be. Everyone was so professional and the crowds were great.

“I only ran the drinks and helped out in the warm-up, but it’s something I’ll never forget.

“We’ve got such a great group and we’re very close and it’s starting to show on the field. We’re enjoying our cricket.”

The young quick is hoping to be available for selection towards the back half of the summer for the Renegades.

Almost back to full training, Vlaeminck is counting down the days until a possible return.

“I wish I could be out there. It’s hard to sit back and watch, but at the same time I’m really enjoying just being part of the team.

“I do the full training sessions, but I modify a couple of things. I do fielding at about 80 per cent and when I bowl I have a reduced run-up.

“I’m getting closer to full fitness. I feel as though I’m starting to bowl alright.”

The Renegades’ double header starts at 4:10pm on Saturday at Queen Elizabeth Oval, while Sunday’s match starts at 12pm, with free entry to both matches.
