Match Report:

Scorecard

Three in a row for the 'Gades girls

The Snapshot: After being sent into the field by the Hurricanes, the Renegades put in a near-faultless performance with both the ball and in the field, restricting the Hurricanes to 8-115 off their 20 overs.

In reply, Sophie Molineux opened the Renegades' chase in fiery fashion, hitting 20 runs off the first five balls of the innings, before being caught by Meg Phillips at the end of the first over.

This performance with the bat, as well as figures of 2-22 off her four overs with the ball, earnt Molineux back-to-back Player of the match honours.

The Renegades hit the winning runs with 11 balls to spare.

The Key Moment: The first over of the Renegades’ innings with the bat saw some truly breathtaking cricket from Molineux.  Facing her housemate – former Renegade, Rhiann O’Donnell – with the new ball, Molineux proceeded to put on a clinic, hitting 20 runs in 5 balls including a huge 6 – the only one of the match.  Molineux’s form with the bat initially seemed to rattle O’Donnell, who bowled three consecutive wides mid-way through the over, meaning the Renegades raced to 0-23 – chasing 116 – after only five legal deliveries.  O’Donnell got the last laugh however, securing the wicket of Molineux on the final ball of the first over, caught by Phillips in the deep.

The Key Player: Not always the standout but always consistent, Molly Strano was again superb for the ‘Gades today.  Not only did she finish with figures of 1-14 off her four overs – easily seeing her register the best economy rate of the match at 3.50 – but this wicket saw her climb to 18 wickets taken so far in WBBL|04.  This is the equal highest for the season so far, tied with Heather Graham of the Perth Scorchers, however the Scorchers have played 11 games whilst the Renegades have only played 10.

Up Next: Tomorrow the Renegades will travel to Mackay ahead of their crucial clash with the Brisbane Heat on Sunday.  The match at Harrup Park will begin at 3pm local time.
