Renegades after Siddle clearance

The Renegades are hoping Peter Siddle will be released by Cricket Australia to play in their BBL season opener on Friday.

The Victorian was omitted from the Australian side to play the second Test in Brisbane. With no Sheffield Shield action until February, it means Siddle’s only chance to press his claim for a Boxing Day recall is in the BBL.

Renegades’ chief executive officer Stuart Coventry believes the paceman will be part of his side’s squad.

"If he's not in the starting XI he'd definitely be available I'd think," Coventry told The Age’s Jesse Hogan.

"The [Renegades'] guys will no doubt be on the phone to him.

“Knowing what 'Sidds' is like, a super-competitive guy, he'll want to play. As long as he's 100-per-cent OK I don't see why he wouldn't be available."

Siddle played one game for the Renegades in BBL|03, taking 3/35 against the Adelaide Strikers.

Although the bowling skill set in T20’s is different to the longer forms of the game, the Renegades’ CEO believes Siddle’s talent will come to the fore regardless of where he plays, and earn a recall.

"He's proved (his talent) for a long time. If he comes back and plays on Friday and takes a few wickets and get his eye back I can't see why not.

"People will see him if he's playing at a good level of cricket. He's a first-grade competitor, so I hope he'll be available. He'd be a fantastic acquisition for our bowling stocks and would complement the list."
